The house itself started as a fishing cabin in the early 1970s and two years later morphed into a 1600 square foot, one and a half story house. With the existing covered lanai and the two lanais we added upstairs, there is an additional 426 feet of living space. We covered the existing exterior of this well-built house with oceanfront-friendly vertical vinyl board and batten siding and completely renovated the inside, replacing all electrical wiring and plumbing, removing walls and  relocating bathrooms, replacing all doors and windows, creating larger windows and adding additional windows in order to bring the outside inside.  Finally after months of hassling, we were able to bring an incredible product, Dryspace, to the Big Island.  This is a vinyl product which we placed over the lanai joists so the joists will not have to be painted every few years.  In addition, the space under the lanais has become dry and useable.  Our goal has been to make this house as ocean friendly and as maintenance free as possible – a necessity here on the ocean.

Have you ever dreamed about oceanfront living on the Big Island of Hawaii?  We dreamed for years until finally, nine years ago, our dream came true.  Now it’s your turn -- a rare opportunity to own what is essentially a new, two bedroom, two bath oceanfront home renovated by people who understand the demands of oceanfront living.  This enchanting home has just been renovated right down to the studs & rafters. It may well  have the most stunning ocean views in Hawaii as well as providing up-front and personal viewing of dolphin & sea turtles plus a front row seat from which to watch whales give birth & train their young.   Why are we moving?  We’re not!  We live just down the street.  The same builder who built our house helped us renovate this house which needed lots of TLC.

Exterior

Finally, a house constructed with the ocean and salt air in mind! This house is as ocean friendly as we could make it with board and batten vinyl siding and  “Dryspace” over the lanai joists.  Like the inside of the house with its fans made of plastic, easy care, mildew resistant cupboards and tile flooring throughout, we have tried to prepare the outside to withstand the elements.
